About the Series
This series of images are a combination of movements. Some movement painted into the frame by the rise and fall of waves and water, some movement painted onto frame by the movement of the camera, panning the camera as the shutter opens.
The aesthetic effect of the movement, is for me, about simplifying the scene down to it’s essence, or perhaps just a singular facet of that moment and place. The dark and light of foam and clear water are merged, the textures become much more unrefined and blended, clarity is reduced but the lines and light and palette become more defined. Just as using a long lens (or your feet) to close up upon a subject, defining what moves you in a scene and cutting out the background or nonessential this use of movement is fore me a focussing of the moment and scene.
